It is with deep love and gentle sorrow that we announce the passing of Adelina Mata, age 95, who left this world peacefully surrounded by her family. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother to four generations, and friend, she lived a long and beautiful life filled with kindness, laughter, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. She carried herself with dignity, kindness, and a deep faith that anchored her through life’s joys and trials.
Born in Sonora, Adelina shared more than four decades of marriage with her late husband, Gabriel R Mata Jr. who preceded in death in 1997. Together, they built a warm and loving home on Gonzales Street, where they settled in 1961 and raised their eight children.
Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit will forever live on in the home she nurtured, the traditions she began, and the countless lives she touched along the way.
She is survived by her sister Amelia Gamez, her eight children, Enedina & Robert Rangel, Maria & Joe Espinosa, Dora Mata, Henry & Hilda Mata, Luis & Alma Mata, Susana & Jesus Torres, Nina & Ruben Lira, and Joe Mata, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a lifetime of dear friends and neighbors who will remember her fondly. A special mention to Jerry Jackson who served as part of the family whom she took care of.
Preceded in death by parents Jesus & Feliz Alonzo, brothers Ray, Raymundo, Pablito Alonzo, and sister Manuela Salazar.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at LMH, Interim Hospice, and Melva Vallejo for their compassionate care and kindness during her final days.
A service to celebrate Adelina’s life will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church on Monday, November 10th, 2025, at 10 a.m., followed by burial at Sonora Cemetery.
