Barbara Ann Savell was born May 13, 1935, and passed away June 18, 2026, at the age of 91.
Barbara graduated from Rock Springs High school. Her journey eventually brought her to Sonora when the newly elected Sheriff hand-picked her father, Leo Bishop, to serve as the new deputy recognizing his distinguished reputation as a Texas Ranger. After graduating from business school in San Antonio, she began a career at First National Bank in Sonora.
On November 25, 1954, Barbara married the love of her life, Bill Savell. What began as a blind date in May, turned into love at first sight and a marriage in November the same year. Over the next 71 years, their devotion to one another never wavered, it only deepened with time.
A faithful and devoted member of First Baptist Church since 1959, Barbara joyfully served her church family by teaching children’s Sunday School and lending a helping hand anytime there was a potluck. Barbara had a deep love for music, and her favorite dancing partner was always Bill.
She found great joy in sewing, knitting, quilting, cooking, and enthusiastically supported the Sonora Broncos Athletics and Band. Above all, Barbara deeply cherished her family. Barbara was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose unwavering faith touched countless lives. As a true embodiment of a Proverbs 31 woman, she leaves behind a legacy of love, grace, and service that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 71 years, her 3 sons Billy Savell Jr of Ozona, Cody Savell and Wife Valeri of Tyler, and Scott Savell and wife Sue of Laredo, Grandchildren, Jake, Emily, Sarah, Lindsay, Mckensay, Colby, Madison, and Savannah, Great Grandchildren Lex, Cal, Luke, Wesley, Graham, Coleman, Addie, Lottie, Skylen, Sunny and Artie. There are many others that claim her as a substitute mother!
Pall Bearers are Benny Granger, Randy Gillit, Clay Hicks, Craig Parker, Rusty Rogers, Dustin Hodge, and honorary Pall Bearers are Joe David Ross, Ron Hawthorne, and Tom Wilburn.
