Idolina Chavez

Idolina Maldonado Chavez passed away on November 27, 2025, in San Angelo, Texas, surrounded by her family, and was laid to rest in Sonora, Texas on December 1, 2025.

She was born on October 30, 1946, in Nuevo León, Mexico to the late Juan and Francisca Maldonado. She lived in Sonora, Texas for 52 years, and worked as a custodian at Sonora Independent School District for over 25 years. A beloved sister, wife, friend, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Idolina dedicated her life to caring for others with a full and loving heart.

Idolina is preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Francisca Maldonado, her siblings, Gela Silva and Gilberto Maldonado, and her husband Federico Chavez Sr.

She is survived by her children, Palmira Sanchez, Leticia Martinez, and Federico Chavez Jr., son-in-laws, Ismael Sanchez and Manuel Martinez, grandchildren, Yolanda & Mikey Sanchez, Monica Sanchez, Kristy Sanchez, Esau & Samantha Martinez, Andrew Martinez & Amanda Galvan, Brandon Martinez and Alyssa Martinez, great-grandchildren, Eliseo Sanchez, Jace Martinez, Zane Martinez and Zaden Martinez, and her siblings, Yolanda Sandoval, Blanca Reyna, Juan Maldonado, Manuel Maldonado, Rodolfo Maldonado, and Ricardo Maldonado.

Idolina dedicated her life to caring for her family and friends, always putting the needs of others ahead of her own. She was a light in her community, never missing an opportunity to attend mass and church events, dance at celebrations, or cook for those she loved. She also loved caring for animals, especially her dogs, Zooky and Muñeca.

Her kindness, humility, work ethic, and unwavering faith were a shining example for all those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Her family is grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support during this time. There will be opportunity to pray the Holy Rosary in her honor at St. Ann Catholic Church at the following times: Dec. 2nd and 3rd at 5:15 PM, Dec. 4th at 5:30 PM, Dec. 5th at 6:15 PM, Dec. 6th and 7th at 3:00 PM.
