Jay "Coach" Clyde Dukes

The Gates of Heaven Opened for Jay Clyde Dukes on August 6th at the age of 77 at Shannon Medical Center. He was born on August 16, 1948 in Abilene, Texas to Octamus Jim Dukes and Roberta Maxine Street Dukes. He grew up in Hamby, Wylie and Abilene. He graduated in 1966 from Wylie High School and in 1970 from Abilene Christian College. He taught school for 55 years including Floresville for one year, San Antonio for one year, Robert Lee for 10 years and Sonora for 43 years. He also coached in Robert Lee for 7 years and Sonora for 15 years. He preached the gospel of Christ in his teenage years and continued through his adult years preaching at Robert Lee, Old Norton, Cedar Hill, Eldorado and Sonora. He performed 40 plus weddings and countless funerals.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Maxine Dukes. His step-mother Vera Cash Dukes, his grandparents Mack and Elizabeth Street, Dave and Minnie Dukes, one brother Jimmy Dukes, two brother-in laws Buddy Malone and Andrew Trapp and one nephew David Dukes.

Clyde is survived by his two sisters Beth Malone and Betty Trapp, by his daughter, Adriana Moreno and husband Cesar, three grandchildren Haley Sanchez, Alyena Moreno and Maite Moreno, by a second daughter Adriana Botello Gueveara and husband Gabriel and three grandchildren, Mia and Avery Botello and Joel Guevara, by three special brothers Bobby Morgan, Jacky Wallace and Buddy Wallace, three special sisters Pam McMullan Wallace, Jana Jeffries and Susan Wallace Millican and one special friend and colleague Ronnie Ruff. He is also survived by one nephew: Daniel, five nieces: Catena, Jenny, Ponnie, Kelly and Chelsi, several great nieces and nephews and great-great niece and nephews and by numerous Dukes’ cousins.

The Lord said unto him, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
