Jetty Della Young Davis

Jetty Della Young Davis, 84, entered into eternal life through the loving arms of her Savior on Monday, September 7, 2026. A woman of deep and quiet faith Jetty knew her Savior well, and her relationship with Christ was the foundation of who she was and how she lived. Her family takes great comfort in knowing that she is now with our Lord and reunited with loved ones in His heavenly kingdom.

Jetty was born on April 8, 1942 in California, to Wesley and Lois (Waggoner) Young. She attended school in Sonora, Texas, where she formed lifelong friendships that endured for more than 70 years. As the oldest of three girls, Jetty was always looked to for guidance and wisdom. She loved her sisters dearly and they remained extremely close throughout their lives. Following her graduation from Sonora High School, Jetty married the love of her life, Birl Vern Davis, on March 12, 1961. Together, they began building a life rooted in faith, family, and love. They started their married life in Canyon, Texas, where Jetty earned her bachelor’s degree from West Texas State University. Together, they welcomed three children, Claire, Bryan, and Lillie.

The family later moved to the Duncanville area during the construction boom of the 1970s. Although they had moved away from West Texas, Jetty and Birl made certain their children remained connected to their West Texas roots, spending summers and holidays with family in Sonora. Jetty worked for the Duncanville school system for 20 years and treasured the many children and staff members she came to love. She took great pride in watching her own children participate in dance, sports, and stock shows. Their lives revolved around their children, their community, and each other. Christmas at the Davis home was something special. Each year, Jetty made sure the house was elaborately decorated and welcomed the community to gather for fellowship, music, laughter, and, of course, chili and tamales. She was always a good sport as Birl added even more lights and decorations until their home seemed to light up the entire block.

As her children married and began families of their own, Jetty moved to San Angelo, Texas, where she entered another meaningful chapter of her life- one centered on serving others. She volunteered with the Wesley Soup Kitchen and San Angelo Food Bank, continued substitute teaching, and devoted herself to adult ministry through Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Jetty lived out a mission of love and grace, helping feed and care for those in need. Her grandchildren brought her tremendous pride and joy. Each summer, Jetty made it a priority to spend time with them. She would pack up and move to “The Cabin” for a few weeks and then head off to Sanger, Texas, soaking up all the love, energy, and enthusiasm her grandboys could give her. Later in life, she took care of her great grandson that kept her young and on her toes. No visit was complete without her familiar parting words, “I love you to the moon and back.”

As the years progressed, Jetty found another family at Bella Groves Assisted Living. She became a bit of a rock star there, known as the beautiful woman who loved to dance, read and share Scripture, and greet everyone she met with a smile. Later, she moved to The Brooks of Cibolo Memory Care, where she continued to be loved for her beautiful, caring spirit and the smile she so freely shared with others.

Jetty is survived by her three children, Claire Baxter; Bryan Davis and his wife, Cyndi; and Lillie James and her husband, Jimmy; four grandsons, Mark Baxter and his wife, Jacalyn, Sutton Davis, Sawyer Davis, and Stockton James; her great-grandson, Caden Baxter; and future great-grandson, Case Steven Baxter; as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Birl Davis; her parents, Wesley and Lois Young; her sisters, Cecilia Nevill and her husband, Bob, and Yvonne Mizell and her husband, Earl; and her beloved son-in-law, Steven Baxter.

A celebration of Jetty’s life will be held Saturday, September 19, at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in San Angelo, Texas, which will be available via livestream. The family extends its deepest gratitude to the many people who cared so lovingly for Jetty, including the staff of Bella Groves and The Brooks of Cibolo, Hope Hospice, and Mission Hospice of Morningside. Throughout her life, Jetty held firmly to the blessed assurance that one day she would be reunited with her Savior. She did not simply speak of her faith, she lived it through her love of God, her family, her generosity and service to others, and the grace she showed those around her. Her life stands as a testament to what it means to walk faithfully with the Lord and place your trust fully in Him. “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
