Maria "Josie" Josephina Gonzales

Maria Josephina Gonzales, a beloved member of her family and community, passed away on January 4, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on March 19, 1930, in Del Rio, Texas, Josie was known for her kindness, devotion, and lively spirit. As a devoted mother and homemaker, she poured her love and energy into raising her four children: Sally Gonzales, Lesa Gamez (Zeke), Ralph Gonzale (Dora), and Christine Martinez (Ronald). Her unwavering dedication to her family was matched only by her deep faith as a devoted Catholic.

Throughout her life, Josie found joy in many pursuits. She was passionate about cooking, often sharing her culinary creations with those she loved. She also enjoyed playing bingo, an activity that brought her laughter and camaraderie with friends. Her grandchildren were a source of immense pride and joy; she cherished every moment spent with Leslie Monahan, Elvalisa Martinez, Michael Martinez, and Velma Gonzales. In addition, Josie embraced her role as a great-grandmother to Madison Monahan, Dylan Monahan, and Mark Gonzales, creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime.

Josie's heart was as generous as it was nurturing, and she always had room in it for her extended family, including several nieces and nephews, who will also remember her fondly.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Rafael Gonzales, her first love, who offered her unwavering support throughout their life together.

Josie was preceded in death by her parents, Candelaro and Maria Flores, and her beloved siblings: Claude Flores, Francis Virgen, Gus Flores, Jesus Flores, and Joe Flores.

Visitation services will be held at Love Funeral Home - Sonora on January 6 and January 7, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM each day. A funeral service will take place at St. Ann's Catholic Church on January 8, 2026, commencing at 10:00 AM.

Josie will be profoundly missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love and faith will continue to inspire those she left behind.
