On Tuesday, May 5 , 2026, Rosalva Jimenez Chavez departed from this Earth to her heavenly home. She was a woman of extraordinary beauty, strength, and grace.
Rosalva was born on March 8, 1940, to her parents, Oscar and Jovita Jimenez, in San Jose de Aura, Coahuila, Mexico. As a teenager, she moved to Sonora, Texas, with her parents and siblings, where she would go on to build a life rooted in faith, family, and love.
From humble beginnings, Rosalva built a life defined by dedication and compassion. She was a devoted wife to the late Victoriano L. Chavez, her husband of 53 years; a proud and guiding mother of four children, Leticia (Patrick), Albert (Bonnie), Delma (Manuel), and Cindy (Jose); a doting grandmother to Adrian (Jessica), Andres (Bayli), Estevan (Kaytlin), and Magdalena; a loving great-grandmother to Aeson and Ashton; and a treasured aunt to her many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
She is lovingly survived by her sisters, Irma Samaniego (Jimmy) and Etelvina Luna (Ignacio); her brother, Joe Jimenez; her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victoriano L. Chavez, and her sisters, Gloria De Luna and Irene Perez.
While residing in Sonora, Texas, Rosalva was a faithful member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. She found great joy in cooking and baking and was especially known for her delicious homemade tamales, tortillas, empanadas, and cakes, which brought comfort and happiness to family and friends alike.
She also found happiness in life’s simple pleasures, especially watching football and cheering on her favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. Rosalva was also a wonderful gardener, and her plants were always flourishing, which is a reflection of the love and care she poured into everything she touched.
When reminiscing about her childhood, one of her favorite memories was the deep love she shared with both of her grandparents. She often spoke fondly of helping with chores around the ranch, memories she carried with her throughout her life and held close to her heart.
Rosalva was known for her warm and caring spirit. She had a generous heart and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her kindness and compassion touched the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Visitation will be on Saturday and Sunday, May 9th and 10th, 10:00 AM-7:00 PM, at Harper-Welch Funeral Home, with the Holy Rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. on both evenings. The Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Monday, May 11th, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Sonora, Texas. Burial will follow at Sonora Cemetery.

The Chavez family extends a special thank you to Dr. Suneetha Challagundla and her staff at Texas Oncology, The Heights on Huebner, Touchstone Hospice, Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Brigid’s Catholic Church Homebound Ministry for their care and compassion during our mother’s courageous battle with cancer.
While we mourn our mother’s passing, we take comfort in knowing that she now rests in eternal peace, embraced by God’s love, and that one day we will be reunited again.
