Ruben I Velez

Ruben Velez, a fiercely loving father, grandfather, and devoted husband, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family, leaving behind a legacy of strength, faith, and endless love. Born in Sonora, Texas, he was the son of Alvino Velez and Linda Sanchez. He is preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife Edna, his parents and his sisters.

He is survived by his four children: David, Elena, Veronica, LeAnna, and his faithfully Yorkie Jefferson Pepe Velez the 1st (a.k.a. Jeff). His devotion and love lives through his grandchildren—Xavier, Kennadi, Layla, Gabriel, and Leah—as well as his great-grandson, Matteo. He also leaves behind his sons-in-law Ray Reyes and David Cortinez, and his many cherished nieces and nephews.

Ruben was a man of faith, a strong believer in the power and protection of God. His sense of humor was all his own—sharp, warm, and unforgettable. He had a mischievous spirit that lit up every room he walked into and a deep love for his family that never wavered.

He was the foundation of our home, a steady presence through every storm, and the one who made sure his family always felt loved, protected, and proud of where they came from.

Viewing will be held from Saturday May 16th through May 17th from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. each day.

Funeral services will be held on Monday May 18th, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Sonora, Texas.

Ruben will be deeply missed, but his love, his humor, and his unshakable strength will carry on through every life he touched.

The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Hospice of San Angelo and close family friend Rebecca Flores, for the exceptional care, kindness, and comfort they provided during our father’s final days. Your support, compassion, and dedication brought peace to both him and our family during a deeply difficult time, and we will forever be grateful.
